Our District
From the roots of the first brick school house built in Washington Court House in 1828, up until the first graduating class of Washington High School in 1876 and on through to the construction of beautiful Federalist-style buildings in 2010, the Washington Court House City School District has been on the leading edge of education in Fayette County and the state of Ohio. WCHCS has always been progressive in our attitudes and beliefs that OUR Blue Lion students deserve the absolute best from the administration, faculty, and staff. In addition, we love the partnership and support we receive from the City of Washington Court House and Fayette County.Today, WCHCS operates four schools: Washington High School, Washington Middle School, Belle Aire Intermediate, and Cherry Hill Primary. In addition, the district operates administrative offices and transportation out of our central office on Highland Avenue and our Historic Auditorium on Temple Street. The school system educates approximately 2,100 students who primarily live in the district. WCHCS offers excellent educational opportunities and a comprehensive program with a focus on relationships and a family atmosphere. WCHCS engages in deeper learning that coincides with 21st century skills that allow our students to be ready for career, college, military, or training opportunities after high school.
A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE
The mission of the Washington Court House City Schools is to create an environment that develops within our students the skills, attitudes, ethics, and knowledge necessary to become contributing, responsible members of our community.
200 years ago, the tradition of excellence in education began as the Washington Court House City Schools commenced in a one room log cabin school house in 1814. Today, we are proud to occupy four new, beautiful “state of the art” Federalist style buildings, namely Washington High School, Washington Middle School, Belle Aire Intermediate School and Cherry Hill Primary School. Our dedicated team of administrators, faculty and staff continue to provide the young people of this community with an excellent educational foundation that enables them to become productive and successful citizens. This rich tradition has graduated doctors, lawyers, teachers, business executives, military officers and professional athletes – just to name a few. Nothing in the community elicits its pride and respect more than our schools and our students. From academics to the arts to athletics, the tradition of excellence is alive and well in the Washington Court House City Schools.
