BLUE LIONS HOST COMMUNITY ART EVENT
Washington Middle School’s cafeteria was alive with creativity and camaraderie as clay, paint, and laughter filled the space during a recent community art event. Thanks to a generous grant from the Ohio Arts Council, the Blue Lion Visual Arts Department hosted a free bowl-decorating event open to all.
“Our high school and middle school students had fun making the bowls in preparation for this community event,” said Katie Kasberg, Washington Middle School visual arts teacher. “They were really excited to bring in their family members, friends, and everyone from the community to showcase their new skills by helping attendees decorate their bowl.
Beyond the art itself, the event fostered meaningful connections between students, families, and the broader community. “The ultimate goal is to bring community members in and connect them with the arts and the school district,” Kasberg emphasized. “We want to build a bridge so we can continue doing cool things like this.”
Kasberg expressed her gratitude to the Ohio Arts Council for making the evening possible. “We’d like to thank the Ohio Arts Council for providing the financial support for this evening. It was such a great opportunity to bring families and community members together and let them see what their kids are learning in school.”
With paintbrushes in hand and a shared sense of purpose, attendees left not only with a beautifully decorated bowl ready to be fired, but also with a deeper connection to the arts, their local schools, and their community.
